Hey, dont dare to think that I wrote the "Hotel" as "Hostel".
It is true.Read my blog and you will agree with those spellings.
You might have heard about the marriot chain of hotels, it is the same in vancouver downtown.
Marriot residency inn, 1234 hornby street.
If you enter this hotel, you will see different kind of people around, in swimming pool, jacuzzi, everwhere. That was a lie.You will hardly see different kind of people, you will see only our own kind of people. One of the best and cheapest software engineers in the world, none other than indians.
If you come to vancouver and have following confusions/questions
1. Where do I live to get similar kind of software engineers, for better discussions and company?
2. Where should I stay that I dont become the odd man out
There is only one answer, come to this hotel.
You can never be disappointed here.If you go for breakfast, you will not only have choice to choose people for company, but if you interact with them daily (one person per day), you can easily spend an year (provided your company sponsers you)
And 99.99% of these people are from HSBC.
So you save one question from your introduction (which company you are working for), answer is always HSBC, so do not waste time.
If you find difficulty in tracing out something (some shop , place etc) and you are unable to understand accent of people at reception.Do not worry, never dial reception :), dial any number you like, It will be picked by HSBC person :) )
Even the receptionists welcome them after work hours by greeting them with a smile and saying "Welcome home".
It is totally like a hostel, all seniors(managers), and juniors (software engineers) sitting together, sharing nasty talks, playing cricket, watching tv and other stuff.
Most of the people stay for an year.Anytime you open the lift, goto pool area, gym or any corner, even in laundry. You will find a HSBC person, they really have good customer orientation, their candidate can be found anywhere anytime.
Amdocs people are totally new to them, as if someone came from other state quota in their hostel and they are willing to know about how AMDOCS people. Are, are they like us ? :))....
Similar kind of stuff creates excitement in their life sometimes :))).So sometimes you feel important being in the minority ( as a foreigner in india), and sometimes indifferent, feeling as if you are odd man out.
They have seen everything out here, and spend weekends in their beds, relaxing.
Some rooms are like "dhabas" where many people cook and have food, and if fined , they share it as real college friends do :)...
It is totally friendly atmosphere, even if you dont have any speakers, ipod, you will never miss it.When you pass by the gallery, you can experience variety of indian music, cryptic south indian songs ( for me) outside one door, dancing bhagra song outside the other, cryptic rock (again for me), ghazals.Any kind you can think of.Totally amazing.
Even in the registration form for marriot, if you forget to specify the company name, they have HSBC as default value :) ( kidding guys).
It seems HSBC stands for Hum Sab British Columbia jayenge.
Lots of stuff to add, but in precis, I got a few nice friends from HSBC ( couldnot interact with all, may be they are more than strength in AMDOCS cyprus ;) ).
A nice hostel for guys like us...Njoy
NOTE: Please dont take it personally, i tried to make it more comic. They are not that much actually, but a lot. This reveals that HSBC is a rich company with good revenue, so rush towards it and stay in marriot :)
