Hi all,
There was a time when being a computer software engineer, being abroad was a great achievement. But now it is so common job, that most of the people get it,Every software engineer goes abroad, and those who dont, are not software engineers :)
Famous beers make a lot of profit when they are exported,
Similary indian engineers are profitable for companies, when transported.
Also each of us think that we are here because we are intelligent.
We feel that we are valued in our company, and our future is bright,
Very soon the real picture comes into limelight.
Actually the "in campus placement" is an indication,
Software companies pick anyone from any stream,
Because they know, the tasks for these students, dont need the cream :).
They just need some workforce to train,
And by default everyone has got a brain.
So no intelligent person or extra ordinary person is needed for being a software engineer.
But the self confidence, and attitude of software engineers is still the same.
If you find 10 people with laptops in canada, US, Europe, and they look asian. They will be engineers for sure.
Every one of them will share with friends in india about his loneliness abroad,But they will never talk to each other, never pass a smile, may be they are shy, or I dont know why ?
This way they maintain their attitude, and each of them thinks, that being in good clothes and not talking to other guys,he would be considered as some manager by other guys, who does not like to talk, but unfortunately, the others think the same.
And the irony is, no one among them is manager, they are poor software engineers, every one with an open cubicle. If somebody will throw something in anger out of his cubicle, other software engineer might get hurt ( we dont have roofs or walls on four sides of cubicle).
A child when grows up,learns how to write and sign, but software engineers, they even forget to use pen after some years. So they are heading towards illiteracy ..kidding...
Worst thing is that most of them will laugh and crack jokes on general life by comparing them with computers.Take an example, one guy will ask other,"Do you know french?", the reply comes and makes some of the nerds laugh, "No man,I know only few languages like JAVA, C++ etc".Well I cannot laugh on that, may be you did :)
They will always have their mails subject starting with "Regarding" e.g Regarding defect 1234...And now, this defect and bugs are so common terms for them, that they themselves become buggers for others in their company. Most of them get in critical states while looking into some critical issues.Issues and defects are keywords to identiy them.Another keyword is "ASAP".They are intelligent and dont piss off their managers by saying crude answers like "No", "Not today" etc, they will always say ASAP - As soon as possible.
Some of them work too hard so that the company targets are met,
beleive me, they stay longer, coz of free internet.
TO be continued...........................

And yes, there is no reason to continue to believe that software people are the cream, or most wanted or highly valued. In Bangalore, they say, if you throw a stone in the air, it will either hit a dog or a software engineer. Not to demean or something :) But software is "commoditized" and "ubiquitous" - so are the software engineers. And in any economy theory, you will see that as long as there is no source of differentiation, you are a commodity. I do agree that, we are have one of best paying jobs (in any country), but we are not alone. So... the point is - desi techies abroad should go up to fellow desi's and talk !! and talk without any attitudes to decode !! There was a study conducted that proved that techies are not good at connecting with people, esp when it comes to dating - its so easy for girls to get totally put off when techie guys use that typical IT lingo - so beware, and be a little conscious :)
