Expats Tips For Coron - Philippines - What to do in Coron and What not to do.

TIPS FOR STAY AND FOOD

  • Vegetarian people take some backup snacks for you before you go for any trip on the boat.
  •  If you plan to live in Coron Island ( connected to airport ),
    •  do not live in the main area ( it is too noisy ), better is a hotel like West town
    •  it is the only urbanized hotel in main Coron Island
  •  If you are single, you can stay anywhere :)
  • Outside the main island there are many nice resorts, for which you have to 
    • Take a boat and go from port to another island (other than Busuanga airport island)

TIPS FOR PRICES OF  THE TOURS

  • Do not spoil the prices for other tourists, follow some basic rules of all tourist places.
  • Do NOT pay more than 650 Php per head for a day trip via boat if it is a shared boat.
    • Preferably go to the port  ( tricycle costs 30 Php per head) and  grab a boat for day trip.
    • Do not pay more then 2500-2700 Php for a day trip to a boat.
  • Plan the places to visit in one direction first
    • This will save time and money
  • Before you start the trip do not forget to ask the boatman for
    • The entrance fees at various places like snorkeling, entrance to any islands 
    • They do not tell before and charge later.
  • Do not forget to ask about additional costs of life jackets etc. 
    • They do not tell before and can charge later)
  • Be clear where you want to go, else boatman will choose the best for him 
    • You will not see the best.

TIPS FOR VISITS NEARBY BUSUANGA

  • On one side are the 
    • Kayangan lake,
      • Kayangan lake is over exaggerated ( as many things in Philippines),
      • Take a bugs spray
      • With small Kids it is difficult to climb and get down there.
    • Twin Lagoon, 
      • Prefer more time for the Twin Lagoon trip ( it is worth, see video down)
    • Coral Parks, 
      • Must See
    • Ship Wrecks,  
      • Average, best for divers
    • Small and Very small White sand beaches ( do not go to very small ones , 
      • You can choose Dimanglit Island - Will remind you of "Castaway".
      • Very small islands are a disappointment - Do not go where boatman takes you.

  • On the other side of the city are the 
    • Mangrove forests. Some wonderful channels.
TIPS FOR VISITS INSIDE MAIN CORON ISLAND
  • Inside the city without a boat, you can track to Mt. Tapyas.
  • Hot springs (Maquinit) - It is a little far , around 30 mins tricycle ride (150 P/Head)
  • Enjoy some restaurants, walk in some areas for shopping in small shops and bakeries.

TIPS FOR VISITS FAR AWAY 

  • The Calauit Safari
    • Animals from South Africa brought to Philippines.
      • It is a little exaggerated, as it is far. and there are very few animals.
    • But If you have a full day, you can see this safari.
      • It is far (prefer with tours and travels, negotiate well). 
  • The Malcapuyo Island, is a big white sand beach, it is also far. 
    • It needs one full day ( take a tour and travel, negotiate well)
